troubleshooting

Cleaning and maintenance.

Stainless Steel: Clean weekly with soft cloth, warm water, and mild detergent. Avoid steel wool, polishes, bleach, salts, or acids. Use our microfiber mitt: one side for washing with water, the other for drying and polishing.

Sticker Residue: If residue remains, use adhesive removers like “Goo-Gone®”, “Un-du®”, or “De-solv-it®”. Rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

Inner Bucket: Remove and soak with a diluted bleach solution or baking soda to eliminate odors. Follow bleach bottle instructions for proper use.

Lid is not closing all the way/squeaks.

Debris or trash might be stuck within the hinge gap.

1. Remove batteries or unplug the AC adapter.
2. Open the lid manually.
3. Clean any debris from the hinge gap.
4. Apply multi-use lubricant (e.g., WD-40) to the hinge.
5. Hold the lid closed manually.
6. Reinsert batteries or plug the unit back in.
7. Trigger the sensor to open and close the lid several times until lid closes fully.
8. Watch our video on how to troubleshoot the lid.

Lid is not responding with motion command, but responding with voice command.

Objects may be triggering the sensor/sensor is dirty.

1. Remove batteries or unplug the AC adapter.
2. Clean the sensor lens with rubbing alcohol.
3. Reinsert batteries or plug the unit back in.
4. Try activating the sensor from above, not from the front.

Dirt might be collected in the sensor hole cut out.

1. Remove batteries or unplug the AC adapter.
2. Use electronic duster/compressed air to blow off any collected dust on the 3 mic holes; 1 in the front and 2 in the back.
3. Reinsert batteries or plug the unit back in.

Lid does not open all the way / does not stay open / closes prematurely / is not responding and showing blue LED.

Reset the can by cleaning off debris at the hinge gap, wiping the voice and motion sensors, and checking for a broken hinge.

NOTE: When first turned on, it is normal for red/blue lights to cycle once.

1. Remove batteries or unplug the AC adapter.
2. Wipe sensor lens clean using rubbing alcohol.
3. Use electronic duster/compressed air to blow off any collected dust on the 3 mic holes; 1 in the front and 2 in the back.
4. Clean any debris within the hinge gap and check if there is any crack / broken part on the hinge.
5. Manually close the lid until it is completely flush with the can and re-insert new alkaline batteries or plug the unit back in.

Batteries drain quickly.

Sensor can may be trying to “listen” consistently in noisy areas, which drains the batteries faster than normal. We recommend using the included AC adapter.

Solid blue light displays when lid opens.

Objects may be triggering the sensor or it is dirty.

1. Ensure that you are not standing in front of the can or nothing is directly in front of the sensor.
2. Wipe the sensor lens clean using rubbing alcohol.

Red/blue light is flashing continuously.

Batteries may be low, or sensor can may need to be reset.

NOTE: When first turned on, it is normal for red/blue lights to cycle once.

1. Remove batteries or unplug the AC adapter's power cable from the sensor can.
2. Re-insert new alkaline batteries or plug the unit back in.
